Step-by-step instructions

Supplies needed

You’ll need two skeins of yarn and knitting needles in the corresponding size.

  1. First, holding both strands together, make a slipknot and put it on one of your knitting needles. Because you held two yarns together, you have a slipknot with two loops on your needle now. We will not use this slipknot, we will remove it later.
  2. Hold your needle in the right hand. Spread out the yarns over your index finger and thumb or your left hand, and hold the tails in your hand as shown in the image below.
  3. Now, move your right needle in front of both strands, under the first yarn, up in between the yarns, and over and behind the second yarn. This is your knit stitch.
  4. Now, move your right needle over and behind both strands, back to the front, over the first yarn, down in between both yarns, and up again. This is your purl stitch.
  5. Repeat step 3 and 4 until you need to inverse the colours.
  6. Twist the front and back yarn once, to that the colours lay opposite over your hand.
  7. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you need to inverse the colours again or until you have enough stitches cast on.

Your cast on is now complete.
